Charles Crispin: A man of sports, travel, and business

Despite bearing the appearance of a typical businessman, Evergreen Re’s Senior Vice President Charles Crispin holds the heart of an athlete and sportsman. An avid outdoor enthusiast since his youth, Crispin had been an athlete in his younger days and continues to pursue various sports in his spare time, including skeet shooting, biking, fishing, and skiing.

A self-confessed outdoorsman, Crispin’s list of sports has him enjoy many of the things South Florida has to offer, and much more. In his youth, he had been a member of his school’s college athletics team. Now a much older man, Crispin holds skeet shooting among his favorite hobbies, which involves the participant aiming and shooting a clay bird (the skeet) in mid-air.

Charles Crispin is also an avid traveler. He enjoys hiking in his spare time and has a wish list of destinations and activities, which include an African Safari, fishing in the Great Barrier Reef, and going on a culinary trail in Europe.

Even when he is at the helm as a businessman (and as a rancher), Crispin has continued to encourage many young people to go into sports. His ranch has supported local sports teams and youth rodeos, while his company had also done so in the past.

More information on Charles Crispin’s career in business is available on Evergreen Re’s webpage. He is also on Twitter and Facebook.

Films about overcoming adversity: Charles Crispin's choice of movies

Movies about overcoming adversity despite overwhelming odds appeal to the inner desire of people to do the same. Charles Crispin is no different. He is particularly fond of this classic plot and has this as the common factor in his list of favorite movies—whether they are action, adventure, or drama.

First off the bat is Remember the Titans, a film produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and directed by Boaz Yakin. Starring Denzel Washington, the film is a dramatized account of racial tensions faced by a high school football team composed of both Black and White athletes.

Another one would be Freedom Writers, another movie based on true events. It follows the story of Erin Gruwell (played by Academy Award winner Hillary Swank) on her quest to save at-risk high school students through writing and tolerance.

Charles Crispin’s list doesn’t stop there, however, but among all these films, the common theme of overcoming adversity rings true. Once the President (and currently the Senior Vice President) of healthcare reinsurance giant Evergreen Re, Crispin applies a similar approach to dealing with challenges faced by his company on the market. He accepts that risk acceptance has a role in improving the company’s market share, in much the same way as the films’ characters overcome theirs in triumph.

Charles Crispin is the Senior Vice President of Evergreen Re, Inc. — a managed care reinsurance firm that provides reinsurance brokerage services to clients to reduce unnecessary health care costs through a variety of economic incentives. Serving as the former CEO and President of the company, Charles was able to make Evergreen Re, Inc. one of the largest and most comprehensive brokers of managed care reinsurance in the United States.

Charles joined Evergreen Re, Inc. in 1997, and was primarily responsible for the company’s robust increase in revenues and profits. He developed a series of proprietary analysis strategies which enabled clients to understand and predict financial risks as a reinsurer would. These strategies were the result of years of hard work by Charles Crispin and his former partners, who founded the actuarial consulting firm, Reden & Anders (Ingenix).

Charles has a vast understanding of managed care operations and health care economics. His clients include health plan providers, health insurers, large integrated delivery systems, physician organizations, self-funded employers, and government-sponsored health care programs. In 2007, Charles sold Evergreen Re, Inc. to Brown & Brown, and continued his role as the President and CEO of the company until May 2010. As the current Senior Vice President, he now focuses on mentoring his clients and company employees in their pursuit for excellent financial management.

Charles is a graduate of the University of Florida where he earned his degree in Economics. He is currently a participating member of several health plan organizations across the U.S. and regularly joins the activities of the Managed Care Reinsurance Association, the Orange Bowl Committee, and Vistage.
